N&R looks to break tradition with Web changes: The News & Record's proposed changes include ways for readers to discuss issues online, more interaction between readers and reporters, and in a dramatic break from a newspaper's gatekeeper role, even opportunities for readers to submit stories of their own for Web publication.
Such changes turn traditional journalism on its head, changing from a "news as lecture" model to a "news as conversation" model, as Dan Gillmor, a former technology columnist for The Mercury News in San Jose and author of "We the Media" puts it.
