One of the reasons why countries like Portugal and Greece are lagging behind is because they wasted the funds they received from Brussels on projects hatched by politicians instead of using them to renew their economies, make them competitive, attract investment and create new jobs. the same report forecasts that, by 2010, countries like Portugal and Greece will see their economies shrink further, whereas Sweden will race ahead because of good governance and the ability to build a new economy.
