CULTURAS IN VITRO

The numbers are in: The Art Newspaper’s annual survey of exhibition attendance figures: “Leonardo Da Vinci, master draftsman” at the Metropolitan in New York was the most popular show of 2003. Opening hours at the museum were extended to accommodate the 6,863 people who visited the exhibition in an average day. Nobody could have predicted the show’s enormous success; in the nine years that The Art Newspaper has collected attendance figures this is the first time that an exhibition of works on paper has topped this annual survey.
