VITAMEDIAS

Lá como cá: Selling their souls: Daily newspapers fail to focus on what they're good at -- local news -- and instead pander to pop culture
Television and celebrity coverage is a waste. People who prefer television simply watch more television -- they don't and won't read papers. Why chase them? Granted, the public can't get enough celebrity gossip, so many dailies behave as if they wish to be People magazine. Problem is, People is better. Besides, all that celebrity gossip comes through the same mills and is available on countless Web sites and TV shows.
Papers should stick to local information and original reporting. That's what they're good at. And that's where they do the most good.
