European Commission’s 30 Minute Removal of Pirated Sport Streaming Content: More Questions than Answers
Such a proposal suffers from two important oversights: First, it does
not account for smaller platforms, small businesses, SMEs and start-ups
that do not have the infrastructure to automate removals at this speed
or scale, and second, it opens the door for over-blocking of content by
proposing the blocking of entire websites, albeit temporarily for the
duration of the sport event, for hosting some infringing content. In
effect, punishing users who are using legal content on a given site.
