There are two kinds of opportunities. One is selling the service and the software -- for example, what Six Apart Inc. is doing with Typepad and Movable Type. The other model is advertising.
If you think about the reasons Google owns Blogger, it's not so much that they want to make money from Blogger as it is they want many blogs and encourage their writers to sign up for Google AdSense, to create more advertising inventory for Google.
