Spanish direct investment in Portugal dropped 61.4 percent last year to ?709 million from ?1.837 billion in 2003, the lowest figure since 2000, according to the Registry of Foreign Investment. At the same time, while Portugal is considered a major destination for expansion by Spanish firms, particularly small to medium-sized ones, Spain's neighbor seems increasingly less attractive to small-scale investors.
