Embassy Row: President Bush continues the tradition of awarding ambassadorships as political favors

Exemplo? PORTUGAL: Al Hoffman: President Bush nominated Florida real estate developer Al Hoffman in July 2005 to serve as ambassador to Portgual. The post had previously been held by Mississippi venture capitalist John Palmer.
The founder and chairman of Watermark Communities, a Bonita Springs-based luxury condo development firm, Hoffman has a long history of helping members of the Bush family win high office. In addition to serving as finance chair of Jeb Bush?s 1994, 1998 and 2002 gubernatorial campaigns, Hoffman headed the Florida fundraising efforts for both of George W. Bush?s presidential campaigns. Hoffman, who owns an island near the Bushes? Kennebunkport estate in Maine, has also served as finance chair of the Republican National Committee.
