Apesar dos condicionalismos neste Dia da Liberdade de Imprensa, é bom saber que:
- Poverty eradication linked to press freedom
- More people trust the media than their governments, especially in developing countries

[acts.: Pssttt? hoje é o dia mundial da liberdade (ops) de imprensa, por favor não falem alto?

In the age of the Internet, newspapers are still big business: Newspapers are the Internet's primary suppliers of information.
While technology may change methods of delivery, as for example online, there is no content to deliver without a news organization to gather and edit it. In its annual report on the news media, the Project for Excellence in Journalism says the "evidence does not support the notion that newspapers have begun a sudden death spiral."
Internet-only sites like Slate and Salon that have tried to produce original content have struggled financially, says the report, while those thriving financially rely almost entirely on the work of others. Newspapers are the country's biggest news-gathering organizations in most towns and the Internet's primary suppliers.]

Smells Like Teen Progress: Condé Nast will let young women supply the Web content
This embrace by Condé Nast, which publishes Teen Vogue, of "user-generated content" -- the toothache-inducing term for the stuff a media outlet's consumers create, which I'll call citizens' media -- comes at a critical juncture. Magazines as a medium are still struggling, with ad pages flat in the first quarter and showing signs of slowing thereafter. Meanwhile, total Internet ad spending is predicted to surpass the spending at magazines this year, according to Merrill Lynch

CULTURAS IN VITRO

Controversy over The Bridge: One of the films premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival is The Bridge, a documentary by Eric Steel about suicide and the Golden Gate Bridge. The trailer is available on the festival site but be warned that it contains actual footage of people climbing over the railing of the bridge to commit suicide. [...]
Steel interviewed family members of the jumpers without disclosing that he'd filmed the death of their loved ones (again to avoid publicity for the filming and the death immortalization problem). Some family members felt manipulated by the omission when they learned of it.
