HDR's
High Dynamic Range (HDR) Imaging: HDR images are composed of multiple shots that each capture a greater or lesser range of light. Typically these images are composed of a darker image, a medium range, and a lighter image. HDR combines these shots into a final image that has a broader range of light to dark. Often, the results are striking, visually rich, and full of details.

On the Origin of a Theory: Charles Darwin's bid for enduring fame was sparked 150 years ago by word of a rival's research: Leafing through the mail at his home outside London one June day 150 years ago, Charles Darwin came across an envelope sent from an island in what is now part of Indonesia. The writer was a young acquaintance, Alfred Russel Wallace, who eked out a living as a biological collector, sending butterflies, bird skins and other specimens back to England. This time, Wallace had sent along a 20-page manuscript, requesting that Darwin show it to other members of the British scientific community.
As he read, Darwin saw with dawning horror that the author had arrived at the same evolutionary theory he had been working on, without publishing a word, for 20 years.

Newspapers Face Ugly Side Of Web Future: As newspapers rapidly embrace the Internet as a means of recovering readers they have lost in their print editions, they have mostly adopted the "open forum" values of the Web, which allows users to anonymously post comments on articles and news events. This has made newspaper comment boards a magnet for a small but vocal percentage of readers who openly engage in venomous personal attacks or racist sentiments.
But critics say that newspapers have been too slow to respond to the challenge of curbing hate-filled speech, either lacking the monitoring capacity, not wanting to discourage page visits to their websites or looking for means of encouraging more participation by readers.
This reverses the historic role of newspapers, which considered themselves guardians of civility and, for example, refused to print anonymous letters to the editor on the grounds that it would invite irresponsible speech that could not be addressed by other readers.

The Internet and Its Discontents by Michael Pastore, author of The Tao of Information - How to Simplify Your Life, Keep up with Technology, and Harvest the Internet's Essential Facts and Ideas in 30 Minutes a Day
Let us count the ways the Internet improves our lives.
1. Human rights are protected, and lives are saved. A woman raped in Pakistan, who surely would have been murdered for her crime of being a rape victim, is shielded from further violence and persecution, when the world hears and responds to her story via the Web.
2. Internet communities facilitate friendships and romance. A prospective spouse or hookup can quickly be found via the Internet, in spite of the quip of one cynical critic: “the odds are good, but the goods are odd.”
3. Scientific and scholarly research flourishes via long-distance collaboration.
4. Personal publishing proliferates: just when it seemed as if the crushing power of big print publishing would drown us under commercial propaganda, the Internet arose to give individuals a still small voice.
5. Strange cyberbedfellows unite for action. We can easily connect with like-minded individuals, and mobilize to do good work for the environment, or social and political causes and campaigns.
6. The Internet — along with YouTube, its wildest child — keeps our politicians and public servants a little less dishonest. YouTube may prove to be a terrific deterrent as high-ranking officials realize a simple truth of the digital age, first coined by Uncle Remus: “You can hide de fire, but what you gonna do wid de smoke?”
7. Email — faster than a letter, cheaper than a phone call, able to alert you to new messages with a bingle sound — allows us to effortlessly contact family and friends.
8. Terabytes of information are accessible to almost everyone.
9. The environment can be observed. One game preserve in China is completely monitored by cameras, so that its Giant Pandas can be watched on a website, by a small number of human staff — and experts in many locations — responsible for their survival.
10. Mundane tasks, such as shopping and bill-paying, are simplified — they consume fewer resources and less time.
The perils of using the Internet are no less tremendous than its benefits. [...]
The unexamined online life is not worth living. What we cannot find in caring relationships with other persons, we will never find through the medium of interconnected machines. Goethe, despite his enlightened culture at Weimar — ingeniously designed to nourish its citizens, and promote scientific discoveries and all the arts — needed to constantly remind himself about the simplest things. Remember to live.

How Truckers Could Save 2.4 Billion Gallons of Fuel Per Year: "The dramatic increase in diesel prices has led the trucking industry to reconsider aerodynamic fuel efficiency improvements that might not have been cost effective only a few years ago," said Georgia Tech's Robert Englar. "Though there are technical challenges ahead, we believe our techniques for improving fuel efficiency offer significant potential to reduce the impact of these fuel cost increases. Beyond the trucking industry, that would help consumers who see the effects of fuel costs in everything they buy."

Dear Pedro,
I have been honored and privileged to work with so many dedicated people on Hillary's historic campaign. Your enthusiastic commitment to her campaign through the primaries has been inspirational.
As you know, Hillary will be holding an event tomorrow in Washington D.C. to thank all of her supporters, to express her support for Senator Obama, and to talk about the issues that have been at the core of her public service, the issues she will continue fighting for.
Hillary wanted to make sure her online supporters were a part of this special event, just as you have been a part of her campaign from the very beginning. So, we will be streaming it live over the website at HillaryClinton.com.
We invite you to visit our website tomorrow, Saturday June 7, at 12 p.m. EDT to watch Hillary speak live.
Thank you for everything you have done for our campaign.

Pray less, work more, says Islamic preacher: For Egyptian-born Muslim cleric and television host, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, there is a simple answer to Egypt's productivity problem - pray less, work more. [...]

What is your outlook for the future of media?
In the next 10 years, the whole world of media, communications and advertising are going to be turned upside down -- my opinion.
Here are the premises I have. Number one, there will be no media consumption left in 10 years that is not delivered over an IP network. There will be no newspapers, no magazines that are delivered in paper form. Everything gets delivered in an electronic form.
